Arbroath Sea Fest 2015
- Arbroath Sea Fest Prepares To Hit The High Notes!
As part of Arbroath Sea Fest’s 20th anniversary celebrations, on the evening of Saturday, August 13, Arbroath Harbour will be filled with the sound of fabulous live music.
“Performances by local bands and singers are always a highly popular part of Arbroath Sea Fest so, to celebrate our 20th anniversary, we’re adding a special ‘after-hours’ gig to the proceedings,” explained Lynn Cameron, who is a member of the committee of volunteers who organise the event, which will take place over the weekend of August 13/14.
“In previous years, people often commented that they’d like to stay longer at Seas Fest so top 70s/80s cover band Miami Vince are to play a two-hour set from 5pm until 7pm. The beer tent and several food stalls will also take advantage of the late-night opening at Beacon Green, enabling the fabulous Sea Fest atmosphere to continue as dusk approaches.”
Lynn added that there’s a packed live music programme across both days of Arbroath Sea Fest, with groups from across Angus and of all ages stepping onto Sea Fest’s Live Music Stage. “There will also be music on the quayside from Arbroath Sea Cadets and Arbroath Instrumental Band, while a musical theatre group is resurrecting the traditional Fisher’s Wedding, which will take place around the harbour.”
Although live music is one of the much-loved elements of this two-day festival, for 20 years, the sea has been the star of the show and Lynn revealed that there will once again be a range of events highlighting Arbroath’s maritime connections.
“Every year, perfectly restored traditional fishing boats, such as The Reaper from the Scottish Fisheries Museum, sail to Arbroath so they can be tied up in the harbour as the celebrations take place around them,” said Lynn. “As this is our 20th anniversary, we’re hoping more fishing boats than ever will make an appearance, as well as the many beautiful yachts and cruisers which sail to Arbroath Marina for Sea Fest weekend.”
Local food and drink will also feature in the Sea Fest programme, with Angus food producers selling a wide range of produce, as well as cookery demos by Wee Cook and Arbroath’s very own winner of MasterChef: The Professionals – Jamie Scott.
Arbroath RNLI Lifeboat always participates in Sea Fest’s programme, with a daily launch down the slipway and opportunities for visitors to go on board, while the Lifeboat Crew and RNLI Ladies Guild undertake considerable fundraising activities over the weekend.
“Arbroath Sea Fest provides us with an excellent opportunity to raise funds to support the RNLI’s vital work,” said Maureen Morrison, President of Arbroath RNLI Ladies Guild. “The Ladies Guild’s famous Cream Teas will once again be available from our vantage point overlooking the Lifeboat slipway, and the Lifeboat Crew will also be selling hot dogs and drinks.
“Every year, the thousands of people who come along to Sea Fest are always very supportive of the RNLI and there’s always a fabulous atmosphere around the RNLI Lifeboat Shed. Arbroath Sea Fest is one of the highlights of Arbroath RNLI’s calendar and we’re looking forward to taking part in the 20th anniversary celebrations.”
